Breed Introduction
The Belgian Tervuren (Belgian Tervuren) is also known as the Tervuren Dog. It first appeared in Belgium. The Belgian Tervuren gives the impression of a well-proportioned medium-sized dog, with an elegant demeanor and a square body ratio, and its head and neck held high with pride. It is sturdy, agile, and muscular, always remaining alert. The overall structure gives an impression of depth and reliability, but not clumsiness. The qualities displayed are intelligence, bravery, vigilance, and affection for its owner. It is always watchful and attentive to strangers but not overly anxious.
In addition to herding flocks, it can also protect its owner and their property, but it is not overly aggressive. Upon command, it is alert, focused, and takes action. It is enthusiastic about things it cares about and has a strong possessive instinct.
The historical origin of the Belgian Tervuren dates back to the 13th century in Belgium. Like all Belgian herding dogs, it shares the same breed roots, with the closest blood relation being the Belgian Groenendael. If two Belgian herding dogs (Groenendael) breed, it is sometimes coincidentally possible to produce a Tervuren. One characteristic that the Belgian herding dog (Groenendael) does not have is the color of the coat; the coat color of the Belgian Tervuren is not pure black.
In 1891, Professor Ruhl of the Belgian Veterinary Academy bred this new breed, the Belgian Tervuren.
