The Pomeranian is a descendant of herding dogs and is known for its intelligence, ranking 5th in intelligence among small dog breeds, making it easy for owners to teach and train. Purebred Pomeranians are quite beautiful and charming, making them a popular breed worldwide. The Pomeranian has a proud, dignified, and lively gait. Its temperament and actions are positive and uplifting. Pomeranians are extroverted, smart, and playful dogs, making them excellent companion animals and competitive show dogs. Their fur is abundant, resembling a little ball of fluff, and they tend to bark a bit. Scientifically named the Fox Dog due to its resemblance to a fox, it is a pet dog that is very lively and affectionate. The coat colors include white, cream, brindle, black, red, and brown, making them a very cute member of the canine family.
The development of the Pomeranian breed originates from the spitz family, with ancestors being Arctic sled dogs, and it is a result of the degeneration of sled dogs. This breed is closely related to the Dutch Keeshond and Norwegian Elkhound. According to the earliest records, it comes from the Pomerania region at the border of Poland and Germany, where these dogs were used to guard sheep. In 1750, Pomeranians were introduced to various European countries, including Italy. When Queen Victoria visited Italy, the people of Florence gifted her a Pomeranian, which she loved dearly. Early Pomeranians were larger and mostly white, but since the 19th century, selective breeding has resulted in today’s small dogs with fluffy, soft fur and vibrant colors. Pomeranians have become increasingly diverse, with white Pomeranians being particularly popular.
