Breed Introduction
The American Wirehair is a unique breed of American cat. It originated from a genetic mutation in farm cats in New York. Like the American Shorthair, various colors of the breed have been developed.
Historical Origin: In 1966, among the kittens born on the Judd Farm in New York State, a black and white mutant was discovered. Cat enthusiasts carefully bred this cat and added American Shorthair bloodlines. After about ten years of selective breeding, the American Wirehair as we know it today was developed.
It has a gentle temperament, is lively and active, intelligent, very curious, bold, unafraid of strangers, and easy to get along with.
