Breed Introduction
The Canaan Dog is a herding and flock guardian breed, native to the Middle East. It tends to avoid strangers while remaining curious. It is affectionate and loyal to its family. The Canaan Dog has a medium build and a square proportion, with no extreme features, and its outline is clear and tidy. Its movements are agile and elegant, running playfully, quickly, and with a long stride.
It has a wedge-shaped head with low-set erect ears; when excited, its bushy tail curls up over its back; the coat is straight, coarse, and flat against the body, consisting of a double layer. The Canaan Dog is an ancient breed, originally used by the Bedouins (Arab nomads in desert areas) for herding and guarding in the Negev Desert.
