The Cane Corso is a refined breed of the ancient Italian mastiff with a history of over 2000 years. It is a standard large guard dog, known for its fierce temperament, extraordinary courage, and remarkable resilience. This refined large guard dog did not originally exist on the Italian mainland but was bred on the island of Sicily.
It is a compact mastiff that possesses the explosive power typical of mastiffs while having more endurance than the average mastiff. In the past, it was used to drive cattle to slaughterhouses, grabbing hold of the cattle for the butcher to do the slaughtering.
Whenever the elderly in southern Italy gather, they passionately recount stories about the Cane Corso, some of which are true, others are “sort of” true, and some are even imagined. They always speak of the founder of this great breed with admiration and affection, a man who dedicated his life to breeding and caring for them.
I hope everyone can see my story because these stories are an important beginning for you to deeply understand the Cane Corso.
