Confused, Are automatic cat feeders an IQ tax?
Answers 1 of Are automatic cat feeders an IQ tax?

It has been in use for 7 years and three automatic cat feeders have been iterated. At least in my family, it’s not a tax on intelligence. It can significantly enhance the tolerance for feeding in my home.
For instance, scenarios such as not wanting to get up early, not being at home during the day, not being able to return home in time at night, or needing to adjust one’s diet in small, frequent meals at different stages—all of them have really been of great help.
But I won’t rely on the feeder completely. Many feeders can only feed dry food or freeze-dried food without water, but in my family, I mostly feed the cats wet food. There are also types of feeders that can feed wet food, but my family doesn’t have a strong need for it. I still have time to feed them 2 to 3 meals myself.
If a cat is fed only with a automatic cat feeders for a long time, it will feel that the food is found by itself rather than provided by me, and thus become less affectionate. So when I need it, I use it. When I can’t use it, I still choose to feed it myself.

When I first got a cat, they all told me that as long as the food was full, the cat would eat by itself when it was hungry, and then the cat would grow into a gas cylinder.
To help the cat lose weight, I give it a little less every day. Then when I get home from work, I’ll get a hungry and crying gas cylinder.
So now I’m also planning to buy a automatic cat feeders. After all, the feeling of being woken up by a gas cylinder every morning is really unpleasant.

There are three cats at home. As a cat lover, I always use an automatic cat feeders. Whether it’s a waste of money or not, it really makes things convenient for us cat owners. Sometimes we don’t have to worry about not having enough cat food when we go out for a few days.
Some people may be accustomed to filling a large container, such as a washbasin, with cat food when they go on a long trip. However, after a long time, the cat food won’t be fresh and the cat will feel uncomfortable after eating it. Then, the money spent on getting sick and seeing a doctor will be the major part.
My cat has a bad habit. After each meal, the leftover cat food is saved for the next meal and not eaten well. So the automatic cat feeders is much more convenient for me. The amount set each time can be adjusted according to their appetite. It neither wastes food nor worries that the cat will get sick after eating stale cat food.
So whether it’s a tax on intelligence or not, it doesn’t matter if it’s convenient for yourself and doesn’t affect your pet’s eating. Sometimes people even pick their own bowls when eating.

I haven’t used it, so actually, I have little say. But the reason why I don’t use it is that I think this thing is somewhat useless, at least for me. I think that whether it’s an automatic cat feeder or an automatic cat litter box, the purpose is to facilitate the owner rather than offer any special benefits to the pet.
Of course, it also depends on how it is used specifically. If the use of automatic cat feeders can save the owner some time for feeding (but not much?), and if the owner can have more time to interact with the pet, then the automatic feeder seems to have some practical value. But if an automatic feeder is used and the time saved by the owner is not spent interacting with the pet but on scrolling through the phone or daydreaming, then it seems meaningless.
If the purpose of using an automatic cat feeder is that the owner has an irregular schedule and often comes home late, making it easy to miss the time to feed the pet, then the automatic feeder seems to have a certain function as well. But to be honest, pets like dogs and cats are not suitable for people whose lives are not yet set, especially students or young people who have just entered society, unless there are family members who can help. Raising pets requires time and energy investment. If you can’t even ensure timely feeding, how can you meet other needs of your pets?
Some pet owners may often travel on business and need to keep their pets at home alone for two or three days or even longer. Therefore, they think that automatic cat feeders can come in handy. In fact, if you need to go on a business trip, I would recommend finding a reliable pet boarding service. The automatic feeder always needs to be operated by someone. If the feeder malfunctions when you are away from home, how can it be solved?
In conclusion, I think for me, the automatic feeder is useless. As for whether it’s a tax on intelligence or not, it’s a matter of personal opinion.

Feeding pets is not only about satisfying their instinctive survival needs, but more importantly, it is an important means to strengthen the relationship between the owner and the pet and facilitate communication. If you don’t even have time to feed your pet, it’s best not to keep one.
