Breed Introduction
The Dandie Dinmont Terrier, originating from England, dates back to the 17th century. It is one of the most elegant and distinctive pet dogs. Many pets are named after the place where they are bred or developed, while the Dandie Dinmont is named after the character in the works of the famous writer Sir Walter Scott.
As early as the 1700s, Dandie Dinmont Terriers bred in the border area between Scotland and England gained fame for their ability to prey on otters and badgers, thus becoming a unique breed. It is believed to be a hybrid of the Scottish Terrier and the Skye Terrier.
The original breed of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier can be traced back to a streamlined working terrier of low status, characterized by its large and prominent head adorned with a silky topknot in proportion to its body.
