Breed Introduction
The Doberman, also known as the Doberman Pinscher, is named after its breeder, Mr. Louis Dobermann, and is considered one of the smartest dog breeds. The Doberman is used for both military and police purposes. There are German and American varieties of Doberman, which differ slightly in character, structure, and physique.
The breed originated in the late 19th century when a tax collector and dog catcher named Louis Dobermann wanted to breed a fierce dog to protect him while he performed his duties. He created a super dog with the qualities of the Rottweiler, Manchester Terrier, Beauceron, and Greyhound. Later, another breeding expert, Otto Geller, improved the Doberman’s guarding abilities.
In 1900, all dog lovers of this breed would forever remember that it was officially recognized and detailed standards were established, with the breed named after its creator, Louis Dobermann. In the early days, Dobermans were indeed very fierce. Reports indicate that owning one required considerable courage and determination. It is known that at just over two months old, they can emit a terrifying long howl.
The physique of the Doberman has become more refined and proportionate compared to earlier varieties.
