Breed Introduction
The French Bulldog (FRENCH BULLDOG) is a lively, intelligent, and muscular dog with a heavy bone structure, smooth coat, and compact build, medium or small in size. Its expression appears alert, curious, and interested. Any alteration to it, except for the removal of the dewclaw, is considered a fault. The French Bulldog is affectionate, gentle, loyal, persistent, brave, and possesses a unique taste, all of which is clearly reflected in its expression and actions. It is friendly towards children and also has a strong and bold character, making it an excellent toy dog with a strong curiosity for new things.
The historical origin of the French Bulldog, in English: French Bulldog, is France. Its ancestors are the English Bulldog, especially the upright-eared toy Bulldog. Around 1860, many toy Bulldogs were brought from England to France, where they were crossed with local breeds, eventually resulting in this small-sized breed with a flat skull and rose or bat ears.
There are many theories regarding its origin, with the most compelling suggesting that many Bulldogs were sent to France as companion dogs around 1860, where they were bred with Pugs and terriers to produce this breed. At that time, this dog was very popular among the nobility. In 1990, two types emerged: bat ears and rose ears, with bat ears being the standard type.
By 1868, a small bulldog appeared in Paris, which is the earliest form of the French Bulldog. By 1871, during the siege of Paris by the Prussians, this dog was already quite popular in France. The French Bulldog was first exhibited in 1889, quickly attracting attention and love from people. Edward VII was particularly fond of this breed.
