Breed Introduction
The Havana cat is a new breed developed by British breeders in the 1950s, characterized by the slender and elegant body shape of the Siamese cat with almond-shaped green eyes.
The Havana Brown cat is also known as the Havana cat, named for its coat color similar to the reddish-brown of Havana cigars and Havana rabbits. Over the years, all-brown cats have been favored by many, with many believing that all-brown cats can protect their owners from misfortune.
The Havana Brown cat entered Europe in the 19th century, and by 1930, a solid brown breed was established. To achieve a richer, warmer chestnut color on this brown base, British breeders experimented with various combinations, mating Siamese cats carrying chocolate color genes and chocolate-spotted British Shorthairs to produce offspring with altered coloring.
After 1953, they further interbred with Russian Blues, Siamese, and other breeds to finally develop the Havana Brown cat we know today
