Breed Introduction
The Ibizan Hound originates from the Balearic Islands. Thousands of years ago, merchants brought the Ibizan Hound to the Mediterranean islands. This breed is widespread in France, famously represented by the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The Ibizan Hound has a silky, smooth coat with various colors. Additionally, this dog was early on prevalent on the Spanish mainland, where it served as both a gun dog and a hunting dog for chasing hares. The Ibizan Hound is very affectionate towards its owner and can sometimes be sensitive to strangers.
The distinct profile of the Ibizan Hound features large, erect ears and a bright coat that are its unique appearance traits. Originally, it was a tracking dog for hunting rabbits, a lineage cultivated for thousands of years where these abilities are crucial. With a soft body well-suited for running, the Ibizan Hound possesses a temperament akin to a deer, blending elegance and power. Apart from its ears, it does not display excess or exaggerated features.
In the wilderness, the Ibizan Hound runs as fast as other high-speed breeds but lacks their exuberance, and the ability to leap high or cover wide distances. It is capable of jumping a great height from a standing position.
