Breed Introduction
The Irish Glen of Imaal Terrier is a small dog with medium-length hair and considerable strength. They work silently to drag prey from burrows. In hunting, they stomp on prey with their sturdy, slightly bent front legs before tearing at it with their powerful teeth. They have also learned the habits of carrying prey like wildfowl and mammalian beasts.
Apart from their hunting nature, they can also become companions to intelligent, robust, optimistic people who enjoy exercising.
In 1575, George Taberfeuille mentioned the Glen of Imaal Terrier in his work ‘The Noble Character.’ The charming name of this terrier comes from an area in Ireland called the Glen of Imaal. At that time, this tenacious dog, known for its aggressive capabilities and disheveled hair, was bred solely to hunt defensively capable animals.
