Breed Introduction
The Italian Greyhound originated in Italy. This breed was historically the smallest hunting dog, primarily used for hunting rabbits and game birds. Due to its small and charming nature, it gradually became a family companion dog.
The highest admirer of the Italian Greyhound was Frederick II of Prussia, who established graves for all deceased Italian Greyhounds and was buried with his own Italian Greyhound. The famous novelist Paul Duplessis was also buried with his Italian Greyhound upon his death. This shows the esteemed status of the Italian Greyhound.
This breed has many enthusiasts in the United States and Europe and remains popular to this day.
