The Komondor belongs to a breed of Hungarian shepherd dogs, also known as Kuvand, from the Puli region of Hungary. This dog has only one coat color, white, and its hair can grow vertically in rope-like strands to the ground after 4 years, hence the name “Mop Dog”. It is also the only breed that can dive.
The Komondor possesses very strong power and a lovable appearance. It is a large dog with a muscular build and well-developed bones, covered by a thick, white rope-like coat. The Komondor often lives outdoors year-round, and its white coat allows it to blend in with livestock to avoid attacks from wild beasts. The thick coat also protects it from harsh weather.
The Komondor is actually a guard dog rather than a sheepdog. This breed has existed for over a thousand years and belongs to the Hungarian shepherd dog category; only in 1920 was a breed recognition standard established.
