Breed Introduction
The Korat cat, also known as the Silver cat, originates from the Korat Plateau in northwest Thailand, and is produced in very small quantities. Its fur is silver-blue, with large green eyes and a distinctive heart-shaped face. Its body is not as slender as typical foreign short-haired cats. It is considered a lucky animal.
The Korat cat is relatively quiet, giving an impression of dignity and introversion. Its meow is very soft and gentle, and it enjoys being close to people. It has a high intelligence and can learn to fetch toys or walk on its hind legs with minimal training. The Korat cat has a close relationship with its owner, making it a perfect companion animal.
Historically, the Korat cat is an ancient breed that originated from the Korat Plateau in northwest Thailand. It was introduced to the United States from Thailand in 1959 and recognized by American cat lovers in 1965. It wasn’t until ten years later that the UK officially recognized this breed.
The Korat cat is also known as the Hek cat, named after a province in Thailand where it originates. Locally, it is referred to as “Sisawat,” meaning auspicious and harmonious. Thai people often gift a pair of these cats, symbolizing good fortune, to brides as a traditional wedding gift
