Breed Introduction
Labrador Retrievers are a medium to large breed. They have a gentle, lively personality, lack aggression, and are highly intelligent, making them suitable choices as guide dogs or other working dogs, ranking alongside Siberian Huskies and Golden Retrievers as the three most non-aggressive breeds. Currently, the Labrador is the most registered breed in the American Kennel Club.
Originating in the early 19th century, they were brought to England from Newfoundland via salt ships. It’s said that this breed was among the first introduced to Europe.
Labrador Retrievers are known for being friendly and intelligent, making them very suitable candidates for service roles. They were originally from Newfoundland and were helpful companions to local fishermen pulling nets ashore. Today, besides being hunting dogs, they can also be trained as guide dogs and to detect drugs and explosives, thanks to their superior sense of smell. Additionally, they are commonly kept as companion animals.
