Breed Introduction
The Norwich Terrier, also known as the Norfolk Terrier, was developed in the early 20th century in England by Frank Jones in the Cambridge areas of Habro and Norwich, utilizing local working terriers to create a new breed, which was recognized by The Kennel Club in England in 1932.
Initially, there were differences among them in type, size, color, coat, and ear shape. Later, the Norwich Terrier retained the drop-ear, while the cropped-ear ones formed another separate breed. The English Kennel Club established them as two breeds in 1964, with the drop-ear being called Norfolk Terrier and the cropped-ear being called Norwich Terrier.
This breed belongs to the working terrier category, rather than the toy terrier category.
The Norwich Terrier is brave, small, stocky, with pricked small ears and a slightly sly expression, making it one of the smallest working terriers.
They are often used for catching rats, and this breed also enjoys catching vermin.
