Breed Introduction
Originating from England, it dates back to the 17th century. The earliest reliable records of pointing dogs in England appeared in 1650.
All types of pointing dogs exhibit the behavior of indicating the location of prey to hunters by adopting specific body postures when they discover it.
Initially, pointing dogs assisted hunters in capturing birds, especially partridges, using nets.
In the 18th century, the practice of hunting birds and rabbits with guns became prevalent, and Spanish pointing dogs began to spread to Europe, where this breed would track prey along the ground using its sense of smell.
