Breed Introduction
The Russian Wolfhound is a short-haired visual hunting dog breed that originated in the Middle East and was bred with local long-haired shepherd dogs in the northern continent to become strong and powerful, possessing a long coat that offers cold protection. It was traditionally given as a gift among nobility, and in 1842, the Russian Emperor gifted this dog to Queen Victoria, who later gifted it to Duchess Sandra.
This breed was further crossbred with local collies in the Norfolk territory, producing a new long-haired collie breed characterized by its slim, elegant form and white back coat, which is the Russian Wolfhound. The Wolfhound is a short-haired visual hunting dog breed, a type of hunting dog that hunts by sight (sight hound), originating from the Middle East and improved through breeding with local long-haired shepherd dogs.
